Purim 101 (or, How to Tote)
What is a Purim tote?
On Purim, we celebrate the day of deliverance by feasting, rejoicing, and honoring the tradition of mishloach manot, sending a gift of snacks and treats.
By participating in this tradition, members can fulfill this mitzvah and support Oheb in a fun, meaningful way by gifting hand-curated treats packed in a handsome, reusable tote.
It’s a great way to raise funds for the congregation and to involve congregants through a meaningful volunteer aspect.
Who receives a tote?
Every member of Oheb Shalom, plus the staff, the clergy, and families and teachers of the Mickey Fried Preschool and the Zeman Religious School, receives a tote.
Each family receives one Purim tote, along with a listing of the people who sent their Purim tote(s).
How do I send a tote?
You have a few options:
- You can send to specific individuals/families.
- You can also send to one or more groups (e.g. all members, Board, staff, etc).
- You can do both.
Note: In sending totes, you can choose whether you want to do “reciprocal sending,” which means that anyone who purchases a tote for you will receive one from you in return! Registration closes on Sunday, February 23.
Okay, I’m ready to tote. What next?
1. Visit the TOTE-ally Purim web page.
2. When you get there, be sure to log into your ShulCloud account.
3. You’ll see a page that looks like this:

4. You’ll make your choice to reciprocate or not to reciprocate in this area:

5. Here’s where you choose your individual recipients:

6. Click on a name on the left to move it into the right column. To remove the name, click on it again to move it back into the left column.
7. Would you like to recognize specific groups that serve the community of Oheb, either as clergy, staff, faculty or as volunteer board members? Or welcome new members? Those groups are organized on the selection page, and you can recognize anyone within those groups with the gift of a Purim tote. Click the button in the lower left hand corner (and note: you may give to more than one group).

Note: if during the campaign you realize that you forgot someone, you’re welcome to log back into your account and make additional selections; you’ll be only charged for those additional Purim totes (since you already paid for your initial order). To ensure the old names don’t come up, we recommend clearing your browser cache before adding names.
8. After you click CONTINUE, you’ll be taken to the CONFIRM PAYMENT screen, which will remind you of the amount and ask how you’d like to pay. (If you have a card or eCheck on file, that info will appear.)

9. After you submit your payment information, you’ll see the THANK YOU screen, which indicates that your order was a success! You’ll receive a confirmation email with your tote bag recipients and the payment total. Hang on to this for future reference!

10. If you are able to help deliver Purim totes the week of March 9, sign up here.
And that’s all there is to it! Go to the form now.
Just remember: registration closes on Sunday, February 23 at 11:59 pm. If you selected reciprocity, you will be charged for those after the campaign closes.
Note: You will receive your personalized Purim card via email by Sunday, March 9 with a reminder that Purim bags are being delivered between March 9 and 12.
Thank you for toting!
