Oheb Shalom maintains many funds that support different purposes:
GENERAL DONATIONS
Support where it’s needed most — your gift to the General Fund directly sustains synagogue operations and the daily life of our community.
AMY AND P. SHERIDAN SCHECHNER MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT FUND
Helps strengthen engagement and foster a vibrant, connected community at Oheb Shalom.
ARTHUR SCHECHNER FUND FOR ZEMAN RELIGIOUS SCHOOL
Supports the Zeman School, including the funding of school tuition for Oheb Shalom members after the generous gift from Arthur Schechner’s Charitable Foundation is complete in 2031.
BARBARA ZINBARG KIDDUSH FUND
Encourages attendance at Shabbat morning services by providing a delicious kiddush luncheon, adding a socializing component to spiritual enrichment.
BETH TORAH LEARNING FUND
In 1983, Congregation Beth Torah of Orange united with Oheb Shalom to preserve a strong Jewish presence in the Oranges. A gift to this fund supports the Beth Torah Lecture, bringing inspiring speakers to a special Shabbat service each year.
BOBROW KOSHER FOOD PANTRY
Started in 1991 to assist Russian Jewish families relocating to the U.S. and setting in this area, the volunteer-run Pantry seeks to serve a cross section of the local population that is struggling with economic difficulties and food insecurity by providing kosher food and household goods. The Pantry serves about 80 households every month.
CANTOR LIPPITZ MUSIC FUND
Supports the adult chorale and the Cantorial position at Oheb Shalom.
CANTOR MILLS MUSIC FUND
Cantor Edgar Mills, founder of the Cantors Assembly of America and Oheb’s beloved Cantor for 35 years, inspired generations with his love of music. This fund carries that spirit forward through the halls of Oheb Shalom.
CANTOR’S DISCRETIONARY FUND
Allows our Cantor to support special projects within Oheb Shalom and the broader community.
CAPITAL EXPENDITURE BUILDING FUND
Provides funding for furniture, fixtures and equipment to ensure the beauty and upkeep of Oheb Shalom’s physical space.
GENERAL ENDOWMENT FUND
A gift to the General Endowment Fund is a gift that lasts forever — becoming part of the permanent foundation that sustains Oheb Shalom for generations to come.
GENERAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Provides scholarships for our grade school and teenage students attending summer and other programs that strengthen their connection to their Jewish identity.
GLORIA AND HENRY z”l AARON PERPETUAL MEMORY FUND
Helps perpetuate the memory of loved ones through support of the memorial boards and programming.
GRIFFLER GREENING FUND
Supports the congregation’s commitment to environmental stewardship by funding sustainability initiatives, such as energy-efficient upgrades, eco-friendly building improvements and green programming.
GRUNT FAMILY PROGRAMMING FUND
Supports family programming throughout the year, most notably the Grunt Family Retreat
IN HONOR
Honors a friend or loved one for a special occasion or simcha.
IN MEMORY
Honors a friend or loved one who has passed.
JACOBS LIBRARY FUND
Established in 1911, the Jacobs Library is a treasured resource housing books, periodicals, reference works and an online catalog. Your support helps keep this cornerstone of Jewish learning accessible to our entire community.
JUDITH AND FRED SIMON FUND
Established in memory of Judith and Fred Simon z”l, this fund is held as part of Oheb Shalom’s endowment, with annual income directed toward congregational operating expenses.
LAURIE AND AL RICHMAN PROSPECTIVE MEMBER PROGRAMMING FUND
Supports synagogue membership growth through creative and innovative programming for prospective members.
MICKEY FRIED PRESCHOOL FUND
Supports the operating costs of our successful preschool program.
RABBI COOPER ISRAELI PROGRAMMING FUND
Supports meaningful connections to Israel – through education, cultural events and experiences that deepen our relationship with the Jewish homeland.
RABBI SHAPIRO LECTURE SERIES BY THE FEINBERG FAMILY
Continues Rabbi Alexander Shapiro’s commitment to lifelong learning through adult education classes, most notably the Rabbi Shapiro Lecture, held annually at Oheb Shalom.
RABBI’S DISCRETIONARY FUND
Allows our Rabbi to support special projects within Oheb Shalom and the broader community.
Annual Funding Appeal (formerly Free Will)
At Oheb Shalom, we believe everyone should have access to meaningful Jewish life. That’s why we keep dues as low as possible — and why we rely on something more powerful: each other.
