At Mickey Fried Preschool (MFPS), we believe that children learn as they play.
We are an established South Orange preschool committed to providing play-based, high-quality early childhood education through the South Orange-Maplewood School District Preschool Program (SOMSD). As one of the largest district provider sites, MFPS offers a warm, creative environment in which each child’s unique style of learning is valued and nurture. All SOMSD Preschool classrooms utilize the Tools of the Mind curriculum, and our experienced, dedicated preschool teachers help give your child the tools, space, and support to learn and grow in the classroom and beyond. Early math, literacy, and science concepts are introduced through thematic play in a fun and approachable way. Students develop their social and emotional skills and develop a new ability to focus and problem-solve!

Extended Hours
Catering to the SOMA community and beyond, Stay & Play runs weekdays from 2:30-5:30 pm, and features enrichment activities running from 2:45 to 3:15 pm and 3:15 to 3:45 pm, including Soccer, Drama, MyGym, Yoga , and Cooking.
We Keep Your Child's Brain and Body Active All Day, Every Day
Through our many enrichment classes, we expose the children to a variety of learning opportunities. These classes help improve critical thinking, social skills, fine/gross motor skills, cognitive skills, and physical fitness.
At Mickey Fried, students begin their learning journey with the core subject areas. Early math, literacy and science concepts are introduced in a fun and approachable way. We love to see the growth of their social and listening emotional skills, along with a new ability to focus and problem solve.

Summer Camp
Summer Camp will not be offered in 2026. Please check back for 2027 dates and rates.
Mickey Fried’s Summer Camp is eight weeks of fun and adventure, taught by our professional early childhood teachers. Campers split their time each day between our bright, air-conditioned classrooms and fabulous playground. We have sprinklers, LOTS of art, music, storytime, and snack.
8 weeks, Monday-Friday, 9 am-3 pm
3-week minimum. Weeks do not have to be consecutive.
