Shabbat

Shabbat is when our congregational family gathers together for prayer (in-person or virtually), study and camaraderie.  We worship together every Friday night and Saturday morning, and seek to offer a diversity of worship styles and experiences.

Friday Night

We welcome Shabbat on Friday evenings online with prayer, music and learning.  Our Friday evening service is at 6 pm on Zoom, except when we have monthly First Friday services and dinner; then it may be viewed on our Livestream page.

Saturday/Shabbat Morning

Shabbat morning services begin at 9:45 am. The Torah service begins by about 10:15 am and usually includes an opportunity for learning through a D’var Torah (speech or presentation related to the weekly Torah portion) or an engaging discussion, followed by kiddush lunch.  All are invited to stay, visit with friends and meet new people. Throughout the year, we often enhance Shabbat morning experiences with special services and programs.

Our worship services are conducted in Hebrew along with English readings using Siddur Lev Shalem.  Oheb Shalom also offers a complete English transliteration of the Shabbat morning service.  Our Shabbat morning Torah reading follows the official Triennial Cycle of the Conservative Movement.

A Place for Kids on Shabbat

Looking for some quality time for your kids on Shabbat?  Oheb Shalom features three awesome opportunities:

First Friday features two dinner seatings, both adult and kid-friendly food, and a musical Shabbat experience.

Shabbat Club! is a chance for families with young children to gather and celebrate Shabbat with a casual kid-friendly dinner and family-friendly service. (Note Shabbat Club! is for families with children aged 0 through the 5th grade).

First Friday Shabbat and Shabbat Club! meet on select Fridays at 5:30 pm. See Calendar for up to date listings.

OhebKids! is a weekly, teen-led Saturday morning experience for kids to connect, pray summer-camp style, and explore the weekly Torah portion. Led by an awesome team of madrichim (teen leaders), with adult supervision by Cantor Kissner and Miss Vivian, we will explore what it means to build community through games, discussion, nature-based activities, and play. Based on a one-room-schoolhouse model, kids up to age 5 are invited to join with a caregiver, and ages 5 to 12 are invited for drop-off. Leadership opportunities are available for kids who are interested. OhebKids! meets on select Saturdays @ 10:45 am. See Calendar for up to date listings.

More Info for Parents

Snacks for kids and coffee for parents are always on hand. (Mornings are hard, we get it.)

You’re always invited to join the full congregational Kiddush immediately following OhebKids.

The indoor playroom is open before AND after for some extra play time!

Our family with young children community prides itself on being warm and welcoming. You don’t need to be a synagogue member to attend  OhebKids!
